I hope you've had a good week so far - there were some cracking wins yesterday so well done to everyone who was involved with those! 7) Lead 2014 - Student Volunteers Required
The University of St Andrews is hosting a LEAD 2014 conference for young people on Tuesday 19 March. The conference is aimed at developing the leadership skills and harnessing the enthusiasm of young Scots in the build up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The programme invites every secondary school in Scotland to send a selection of young people to take part in the conference. The conference will see university students lead workshops on event management to inspire the younger students to subsequently organise and deliver Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games themed sports festivals within their own school community. Closely linked to existing leadership work in schools, Lead 2014 will encourage Scottish support for the Games while giving young people a unique opportunity to develop and enhance their leadership skills.
In addition to being available on the conference date you must be available to attend an introductory meeting on Thursday 31 January at 17:30 in the University Sport Centre Club Room as well as attending a weekend training session, again held at the Sport Centre, on Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 February.
We are looking for approximately 20 student volunteers to lead the conference and teach the school children all of the skills that they require to run their own sporting events. If you want to be one of the volunteers and help on this exciting initiative then please register an interest with Gary Brankin firstname.lastname@example.org detailing the volunteering experience that you have.
So lots of information for you to take in from that lot! Captains/Presidents/Secretaries please make sure you distribute it all effectively.
Now on to my wise quote of the week from a classic film:
"Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game" - A Cinderella Story
